Abstract: Lu Xun stated in the 7th chapter of A Brief History of Chinese Novels, Before and After A New Account of the Tales of the World, that Monk Tales of the World written by Yan Congqiao, is published in the Qing dynasty, which is also accepted by most scholars. It could be concluded, however, that this works is published in the end of the Ming dynasty instead of the Qing dynasty by examining the record related with Yan Congqiao in Wang Shizhen’s collected works and Anhui ? Huaining County Record revised in the Qing dynasty.
