Abstract:

This article traces the academic trajectory of Gu Tinglong, from his early engagement with traditional bibliography to his associations with the Second Library of Jiangsu Province and National Library of Peiping. Drawing upon historical materials, it describes Gu’s experience in the acquisition of ancient Chinese books and the compilation of the Catalogue of Zhang Yu’s Sidangzhai Collection following his appointment at the Yanjing University Library. It also outlines his achievements and contributions during his 14-year tenure at the Shanghai Private United Library. In conclusion, Gu, as a prominent figure in modern Chinese librarianship, had both the dedication to serving library patrons and the unique vision of a scholarly librarian of literature and history.
