Abstract:

The Wu Lin Cang Shu Lu has long been regarded as Ding Shen’s personal work, but the manuscript of this work demonstrates that Ding Shen and his brother Ding Bing completed it together. In the process of updating and supplementing the book, the Ding brothers not only added entries and enriched the content, but also improved the way of writing and distinguishing categories. Comparing the manuscript and the published version, it can be found that Ding Shen and Ding Bing have been intent on promoting the beginning, expansion and explanation of Hangzhou’s book collection. The book also focuses on Hangzhou cultural families and the prosperity and decline of Hangzhou culture, while exposes and criticizes the current state and social customs of Hangzhou society, which implies the Ding brother’s regional consciousness, cultural complex and realistic concern through writing of the history of Hangzhou book collection.
