Abstract: The Biography of Blessed Friar Odoric translated by Guo Dongchen was collected in the Library of Hubei Province. It was published at the College of Chongzheng in the fifteenth year of Guangxu(1889). It was the earliest Chinese translation of Italian Franciscan Friar Odoric’s travelogues to the East. This book in the Library of Hubei Province was damaged and lost one page. In the prefaces of Hu Hong and Guo Dongchen the translation’s process was explained in detail. The book contained the Friar Odoric’s travel, many events of Friar Odoric and Guo Dongchen’s notes. This book was quoted by scholars who studied the spread of Catholicism in China and the history of communication between China and the West. It is of great value to the studies of the spread of Catholicism in China and the history of communication between China and the West.
