Abstract: This paper analyzes the surveys on reading of disabled children in Pudong New Area, and identifies several problems, such as that the disabled children are underserved in the area; that the habit of reading has not yet been formed; the type of literature is limited; that the family reading atmosphere is poor; that the society’s acceptance is not high; that they do not have a clear understanding of library functions; and that the demand for targeted reading service is urgent. It thus puts forward some thoughts on reading service for disabled children in public libraries, including setting up a designated reading room (area) for the disabled children; advocating the service concept of “equality”, “priority” and “sharing”; increasing the publicity of library functions among disabled children and attracting more disabled children and their families to the library; building special collections for disabled children in various categories to meet their diverse needs; carrying out game-based, personalized and family-style reading promotion activities for disabled children; strengthening reading guidance for disabled children and their families; improving the network of reading services for disabled children to help them access reading services at their doorstep; and setting up special departments providing reading services for disabled children.
