Abstract: Digitization is an important and effective way for libraries to protect and excavate communist newspaper (a.k.a. “red” newpaper). This paper takes the digital database production of Shansi-Suiyuan Daily as an example. By optimizing digital standards and processing process, tapping characteristic
resources, and verifying strictly in the end, it has well realized the functions of easy reading and searching, such as the original presentation, multi-way searching, conversion of simplified and troditional characters.It greatly helps the study of the Si Shi (Four Histories) and the research of the Party history, especially the period of the Anti-Japanese War and the War of Liberation. The paper also puts forward some suggestions on the problems existing in the construction of digital resources and the subsequent function expansion. These explorations and practices can provide reference for the digitization and large-scale development and
utilization of “red” newspaper and documents.
