Abstract: The fourteen volumes of the Qiantang Ji held by the Seikado Bunko Library in Japan are the sole Song Dynasty block-printed edition of Qiantang Ji, by Wei Xiang, a scholar of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is the original edition of the prevalent edition. There are many lost poems, essays and Wei Xiang’s self-annotation, absent from the current edition, showcasing historical value for studying the political ecology of the Northern Song Dynasty and the activities of literati communication. For a long time, the popular edition of the Collection of Qiantang in academic circles is the Collection of Wulin Wangzhe engraved during the reign of Guangxu (and Quan Song Shi and Quan Song Wen compiled based on this book). The Guangxu editions are very different from the original Song block-printed version, and had omitted several poems and self-annotations of the author. By examining the edition held in Seikado Bunko, we can shed new light on itsliterature and historical value.
