Abstract:

Shallow reading has caused wide public concern, especially in the press industry and libraries.
It is very important to objectively define “shallow reading” so as to conduct reading promotion activities and
to reduce unnecessary discrimination and prejudice. Starting from the concept of “reading” per se, the paper
tries to work out a new definition for “deep” and “shallow” reading, and identifies relevant issues to address.
It points out the characteristics of shallow reading in the end.
