Abstract: The publishing service of university libraries is an innovative mode of academic exchange. Studying practice of publishing service in foreign university libraries is helpful to promote the publishing service of Chinese university libraries. Based on the publishing approaches of foreign university libraries, the paper made quantitative comparison and trend analysis of various publications involved in Library Publishing Directory in the past five years. Taking into consideration of the different management systems of publications at home and abroad, and especially China’s current publishing mechanism as well as basic national conditions, it explored the publishing channels and publication types which are suitable for the publishing service of Chinese university libraries, and presented inspiring ideas for such service.
