Abstract: Yuan Zuzhi, who is an old scholar and lived in Shanghai in the late Qing Dynasty, was active on the press, later transformed into a typical representative of the press scholars. But about his life and writings, up to now there are still a lot of controversy. In this paper, Yuan Zuzhi’s own writings and Shen Bao as the main test object, supplemented by other relevant literature at that time, organize to choose, details examine and correct the date of death and the writings of the department alias, for future research to solve the basic problem.
