Abstract:

The School of Foreign Studies at Minzu University of China in Beijing initiated in 2009 its
“One Book” Project, which gives all incoming freshmen a book as a way for them to share their first taste of
college life. After reviewing the evolution of the project and its current development, including book selection,
selection standards, and its derivative activities, this paper intends to discuss the importance and necessity of
such a reading project in colleges in China.
