Abstract: NMC Horizon Report: 2017 Library Edition charts the five-year impact of innovative practices and technologies for academic and research libraries across the globe. It is very important for libraries to review its own development status, recognize the development trends, find their positioning, adopt the technology and meet the challenges. This article analyzes the core content of the report in three aspects: key trends, important challenges and technological progress, as well as the changes of three library editions. Base on the content of the report, this paper points out that academic libraries in China can promote the application of new technologies and the innovation ability gradually, by way of deepening cooperation, embracing the challenges, improving ability, promoting transformation, and advancing technology application, while bearing in mind current domestic context and objective conditions like human resources, financial resources and material resources.
